Earth Day

It's hard to believe that it's been so long since I posted. The days are just flying by! Easter was wonderfully stressful and last weekend I went to Roanoke VA for the weekend to see a friend for her birthday.

Today is Earth Day (and Administrative Professionals Day). I work at a fairly large General Contracting construction company and one of my good friends leads out Green projects. These are jobs that meet certain criteria and are awarded different levels of Green certifications. We try to recycle as much as possible in the office and out at the job sites. The city I live in also provides us separate recycle bins for use at our house. Even at Roo's school they are teaching the children about the Earth and how to take care of it.
I'm far from perfect and I don't consider myself a tree huger, I think we should open ANWR for drilling and keep the resources in the U.S (I lived in Alaska for 4+ years & I am still an Alaska resident - so I have the right to weigh in on this one) I also drive and SUV. I'm not saying you should take drastic measures but everyone should be trying to do their part.

How long it takes the items we toss into our landfills to decompose:

Paper ................... 2 to 5 months
Orange peels ............ 6 months
Milk cartons ............ 5 years
Filter-tip cigarettes ... 10 to 12 years
Plastic bags ............ 10 to 20 years
Leather shoes ........... 24 to 40 years
Plastic containers ...... 50 to 80 years
Disposable diapers ...... 75 years
Tin cans ................ 100 years
Aluminum cans ........... 200 to 500 years
Styrofoam ............... Never
